Edward (Eddy) L. Dean, 55, of Panama City died on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012. He was born on Feb. 27, 1957 in Greenville, S.C. to the late Charles E. Dean, Sr. and Christine Tucker Dean. His family later moved to Panama City and he grew up in the historic Millville community.
Mr. Dean was a 1975 graduate of Rutherford High School and was retired from management with the Kmart corporation. He was an active member of the Trinity United Methodist Church since his baptism and confirmation at an early age and was later active in the United Methodist Youth Fellowship. As a young adult, he was a sponsor for the UMYF and in 1990, he organized the Aldersgate Sunday School Class for young adults. He was also active in the United Methodist Men.
Mr. Dean was dedicated to the ministries of the laity and had faithfully served on, or had chaired, multiple committees in the local church. In addition to being the present church lay leader and the chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Cmte., he had also served chairmanships of the Council on Ministries, the Centennial Cmte., the Board of Stewards, and the Board of Trustees.
Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ann Dean Barfield; and a brother, Robert Bradley. He is survived by two sisters: Mandy Peeler of Columbus, Ga. and Debra Dean of Panama City; two brothers: William (Billy and Susan) Dean of Panama City and Charles (Chuck and Betsy) Dean, Jr. of Duncan, S.C.; two aunts; an uncle; several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. Funeral services for Mr. Dean will be conducted on Sat., Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverends Ted Lovelace and Ken Brookins officiating. Serving as active pallbearers are Wayne McLeod, Ken Brookins, Austin Andrews, Chance Suggs, Brett Hanson, and Perry Cunningham. Honorary pallbearers are Rudolph Prows, Charles Cunningham, Herbert Strange, Joseph Howard, and Lomax Whitaker. Burial will follow in the Callaway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 30 from 6 – 8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 2322 E. Third St., Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Edward Dean.
