Edith Hedwig Paisley (77) passed away peacefully at Gulf Coast Medical Center on May 13, 2009 with family by her side.
Edith was born in Pomerania on January 14, 1932 to the van Just family of Stettin, Germany. She married the love of her life, Richard Lee Paisley in Wiesbaden, Germany in 1955 and came to the United States in 1956. Edith and her family moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1963 where she lived happily for the next 40 years. Recently, she settled in Panama City, FL in July, 2004.
After the war, Edith worked as a nurse in Wiesbaden, Germany where she met her future husband, Richard. Crossing the ocean in 1956 with a new baby, she settled in Morgantown, WV while her husband finished college. Edith followed her husband to Johnstown, PA and Pittsburgh, PA as he rose in his career at US Steel. After the death of her husband in 1969, Edith returned to nursing while raising her two young children.
Edith was the head nurse and head administrator at the Salvation Army's Claire Booth Home in Pittsburgh. Throughout her life, her passion was helping others, caring for her family and friends and a love for the game of bridge.
Edith was preceded in death by her mother and father and her loving husband Richard. She is survived by her son Robert David (Diana) Paisley of Richmond, VA, granddaughter Deanna Leigh Paisley, of Orlando, FL, daughter Karen Marie (Robert) Stence of Panama City, FL and brother-in-law Dr. John Paisley of Pasco, WA. Also left to cherish her memory is a multitude of close friends who shared her passion for bridge and friendship.
As per her request, Edith will be cremated and her ashes buried at sea during a family only memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edith's favorite charity, The Salvation Army.
