Obituary

Duke Christian Pearson, 82, of Panama City Beach, FL passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Known affectionately as “Pop” and “Papa,” Duke was a devoted husband and kind grandfather. He was a passionate Christian who cherished reading his Bible. Over the past six+ years, his health limitations restricted his church attendance, but he found solace in watching various pastors on TV.

Duke was a gentle and compassionate man whose kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Throughout his life, he owned several businesses and enjoyed teaching practical skills, helping people realize their potential.
He held a Black Belt in Martial Arts. And, earned a Master’s Degree in History on the GI Bill after returning from the Vietnam War. At the age of 27, Duke was offered a position to teach History at the University of Southern California for several years after earning his degree. During those years He gave both private as well as group karate lessons while saving enough money to open seven (7) karate schools in Southern California. In addition, Duke had a jewelry business (14 Karat Unlimited LLC) for many years. He enjoyed going to trade shows where he bought and sold the jewelry pieces he created.
At the age of 18, Duke enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Vietnam War. The past 6 years he suffered from a rare disease (ANCA- Associated Vasculitis) caused directly by Agent Orange Exposure. The Veterans Administration (VA) ruled that he was 100% disabled at the age of 69.

Duke’s unwavering faith and compassion left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Percy-Pearson, his daughter Vicky Caldwell, his granddaughter Noel (Tom) McCormick, and his great-granddaughter Madison Gamble of North Carolina.

Duke was born in Portland, Oregon, on December 24, 1943.
He was the eldest of five siblings. Melissa Gay and Victoria Gay, and his brother, Volney Pearson.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Candace C. Pearson.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Azzam Adhal and Dr. Susan Compton. They also express their deepest appreciation to each of the caring nurses and staff members in the Critical Care Unit at Gulf Coast Hospital.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
