Dorothy May Smith Lumley passed away January 11, 2024 in Panama City, Florida. She was born April 19, 1926 in Oak, FL near Ocala, to the late John Charles and Emma Eliza Davis Smith.

She worked for Lumley Plumbing as well as the Millville and Panama City post office.  She was a long-time member of St Andrew Baptist Church. Dot traveled extensively to Africa, Brazil and Mexico on mission trips with her church.  She truly cherished these trips.  She also spent a great deal of time working at the St Andrew Baptist Church "Center of Hope" for many years, including A Sheltering Tree pregnancy center, The St Andrew Christian Care Center, and the St Andrew Community Medical Center.  She was still working as a volunteer until the age of 96.

Three of her greatest loves were travel, fishing, and crafting. She was always making something to share with others, and would fish 'til dark waiting on that last "nibble".  If you said go, she would have her bags packed before you could get to her house. She loved to "go". She also loved sending cards of encouragement to anyone she thought might need one, as well as birthday cards, anniversary cards, etc.  If you knew her well, you probably received a card or note from her at some point.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Huey Virgel Lumley Sr., two brothers, James William Smith and Charles Franklin Smith and her son John Franklin Lumley.

Survivors include son, Huey Virgel Lumley, Jr. (Patricia) of Louisville, KY and daughter, Cathy Buschmeyer (Greg) Panama City, Florida and daughter-in-law Linh Phan, Panama City Florida.  Five grandchildren, Gregory Ryan Buschmeyer (Kerri) Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Amy Nicole Harbeson (Brad) of Panama City Beach, Florida, Casey Alan Buschmeyer (Lorrie) Panama City, Florida, John Forrest Lumley, Panama City, Florida, and Lindsey Marie Lumley, Blacksburg, Virginia. Also, 5 great grandchildren, Asher Harbeson, Panama City Beach, Cole Buschmeyer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Caitie Buschmeyer, Panama City, Christy Curenton, Louisville KY, Delaney Harbeson, Panama City Beach, and Kate Buschmeyer, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

She also enjoyed a special relationship with her sister-in-laws, Lou Smith and Frances Smith.

A celebration of Her Life will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the St Andrew Baptist Church Student Center, Visitation will be at 1:00 pm and services will be at 2:00 pm.

In Lieu of flowers, gifts may be sent to the Gideon's International, or to the St Andrew Baptist Church Building Fund.
