Dorothy Genear Clemmons Murfee, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the age of 91.
Her spouse, Blanford Murfee, her parents, Sam Clemmons and Mamie Galloway, two Brothers, Gordon Clemmons and Adolph Clemmons, one grandchild, Ronnie Murfee Jr. preceded her death. Genear was born in Geneva County, Alabama and grew up there and in Holmes County, Florida. She met Blanford Murfee in 1938. On Independence Day week they were married at the Chipley Courthouse.
In early 1942 they had a home constructed on Second Street in which they both resided throughout their lives. Neighbors came and went over this time and Genear was friend to several who preceded her in death and others who moved on but maintained contact. They were like family to her.
Her husband, children and grandchildren all knew that Genear never ceased to pray for them. After her husband died thirty years ago, she became more active in the First Methodist Church and Bible class through attendance, preparing 'covered dishes', and visitation.
Genear was physically and mentally tough, and blessed with unusually good health. However, she had a series of debilitating strokes around her 90th birthday. As was her nature, she worked very hard in therapy sessions with professionals and her family. She made considerable progress overcoming the effects of the strokes; however, during recent months she experienced heart failure.
