Obituary

Doris Jean Wigal Stewart, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Panama City, Florida, surrounded by family.

She was born on March 31, 1939, in Jamestown, Ohio, to Cleo and Albert Wigal. Doris dedicated her life to education, believing deeply in its power to shape individuals and society. She taught for more than 25 years in Scottsdale, Arizona, and also educated students in Shaker Heights, Ohio. A proud military wife, Doris supported her family with strength and grace throughout her husband’s service. Even after retirement, she never lost sight of the importance of learning and the lasting impact a caring teacher can make.

Doris loved to travel and cherished taking her family on trips across the world. Some of her favorite memories were made on trips with her family. She also had a lifelong love of animals and a gentle, kind spirit that made everyone feel welcome and cared for.

Doris was married to her beloved husband, Ralph Boyd Stewart Jr., and together they raised two daughters, Susan Renee Tierney and Sharon Rachelle Stewart. Susan and her late husband, Tod Tierney, had two daughters, Maranda Tierney Lee and Morgan Tierney. Sharon married James Brown and is the stepmother of Luke and Seth Brown. Doris was a devoted and proud grandmother and was overjoyed to recently welcome her great-granddaughter, Magnolia Lee, born December 18, 2025, to Maranda Tierney Lee and Ryan Lee.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph Boyd Stewart Jr; her daughters, Susan Tierney and Sharon Stewart Brown (James Brown); her grandchildren, Maranda Lee (Ryan Lee), Morgan Tierney, Luke Brown, and Seth Brown; and her great-granddaughter, Magnolia Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo and Albert Wigal, and her son-in-law, Tod Tierney.

Doris will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and the many lives she enriched. She will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of those who loved her.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at 1 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-1 pm prior to the service.
