Donald Lloyd Heaton, 92, of Panama City, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 in his home. He was born July 24, 1927 in Hiawatha, Kansas and was raised in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He attended Indiana University and graduated from Huntingdon College. He had been a resident of Panama City since 1958. He was an retired insurance agent having worked for Merriam Insurance, Howell & Conner Insurance, Hutt Insurance and Don Hood Insurance Agency. Don was the voice announcer for high school sports at Tommy Oliver Stadium for over 50 years. He was a longtime member of the Acme Masonic Lodge #222 where he had served as Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Shaddai Shrine Temple where he volunteered transporting crippled children to Tampa for over 5 years. He also was a member of the Panama City Optimist Club, Panama City Lions Club, the Panama City Elks Club, the Paul W. Ariey American Legion Post 392. Don was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City where he sang in the choir for 50 years and led music during Sunday School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd & Leola Heaton, sister, Mary Lou Scott; two brothers, Roy Heaton and Gale Heaton. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty Sims Heaton, daughter, Donna Heaton, son, Stan Heaton and wife, Robin; three granddaughters, April Nelson, Natasha Heaton, Brianna Heaton and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12 noon-1 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Building Fund at First Baptist Church, PO Box 1200, Panama City, FL 32402 or to the Shaddai Shriners Transportation Fund, PO Box 16115, Panama City, FL 32406 in memory of Don Heaton.
