Obituary

Dixie Douglas Stubblefield Watson

1920 - 2009

To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:8

Dixie was born outside Hartsville Tennessee, August 25, 1920. Dixie moved to Panama City in 1947 due to the employment of her husband with J R Asbell Block Company. Dixie had a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City.

Dixie was an administrative secretary for BCSS for 31 years; working at Cove School, Everitt Junior High, Rutherford High and retiring while at Mowat Junior High. She loved the relationships she had with faculty and students at each school.

She is survived by daughter, Laura Love Watson Hicks, husband Stan; grandsons, Ted Watson Jr. and wife Kerry of Winter Gardens, FL, Andrew "Andy" Douglas Hicks and wife Debbie of Panama City, FL, William "Craig" Hicks of Los Angeles, CA; brother, Horace "Doc" H Stubblefield of Hartsville, TN; great grandchildren, Jennifer "Jenny" Stelly and husband Jason of Apopka, FL, Stephanie "Steph" Pacheco and husband Marcio of Windermere, FL, Ted Jacob "TJ" Watson of Winter Garden, FL.

She was preceded in death by husband, Richard "Dick" Leroy Watson; son, Ted Leroy Watson; parents, Tantie B "T-daddy" and Mary Deora H "Ma" Stubblefield; brother, Ted Stubblefield; sister, Jessie Stubblefield.

Dixie loved to listen to her pastor Craig Conner by television. After listening to the service, she would comment about how well prepared the sermon was, and how much the message blessed her.

Dixie loved her family and special friends she made over the years. She would be described as a very independent woman who could hold her own in a debate. She was a realist, providing counsel/support to family and special friends. She was proud and dearly loved each of her grand and great grand children. She was noted for quotes that will be repeated by family and friends. As long as her vision allowed, she worked the crossword puzzle everyday in the newspaper.

Dixie will be missed by all who knew her, especially her best friend, daughter, Laura Love Hicks and sparring buddy/son-in-law Stan Hicks. Dixie would ask that you do the following: trust God because He is in charge anyway; take time to stop and smell the roses; tell your family and friends often how much you love them.

Special thanks for loving care provided by: Dr. Linda Fox and staff; Dr. Bobbie Baker; First Baptist staff; BMC staff; HealthSouth staff; GCMC staff; Covenant Hospice.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. Active pallbearers will be Ted Watson, Andy Hicks, Craig Hicks, Spencer "Spink" Cullen, Harry Peterson and Richard Robbins.
