Dinah Kent, 83, passed away on May 27, 2011 as she struggled to overcome cancer.
She was born on July 16, 1927 in Milan, Italy to Peter Machetta and Amelia Gorche, one sister, Carla Re and husband, Vittorio, and nephew, Alfredo of Novarra, Italy. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, John D. Kent, two daughters, Suzanne (William Tipps) and Cheryl. She had a special place in her heart for her only granddaughter, Diane' and former son-in-law, Paul.
Dinah was a very proud and strong willed woman who lived through the perils of WWII in Italy. The story of her marriage to John was published in the newspaper as it was performed by telephone between the United States and Italy, as he was serving in the United States Army. Another important event in her life was when she received her United States citizenship. She was talented with sewing, knitting and embroidery and she had a gift of growing flowers. Her many pets over the years were loved, especially her cocker spaniel, Jewels. Everyone loved to hear her speak with her Italian accent. She had a great sense of humor and lively personality. She was a member of the White Shrine and served as the Herald. She was also a member of Youngstown Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Love officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. A special thanks is extended to Dr. Mark Akerson of Marianna and the staff members of Signature Healthcare for their warm and professional services. Also, Sydell Wilson and Keria Williams, very special aids, for their devotion and never ending care. Also, a remembrance for the two "little angels" that Keria and Sydell brought to visit her. We would like to thank Annnette Guild of Panama City for her help and concern during the many hours spent with her.
