Obituary

Nearly ninety years old, Della Ruth Skipper went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2015

Although she lived in Panama City, Florida for over fifty years, she died at her birthplace, Montgomery, Alabama. She was born on June 22, 1925 to Della Bradley Ivey and Walter Raymond Ivey. The youngest of ten brothers and sisters, she was always considered the baby of the family. She graduated from Saint Mary's of Loretta in 1943 and worked as a bank teller until she married Flynn Collins Skipper on October 11, 1947.

With Flynn in construction, the two of them lived carefree for over a decade, moving around the North and South as jobs of interest became available. After ten years, Della finally bore her only daughter, and in 1962 they settled in Panama City, Florida. Looking for the best place for her daughter to start kindergarten, she chose Panama City Christian, the school affiliated with Central Baptist Church, and for the next thirteen years she devoted herself completely to both school and church as room mother, lunchroom volunteer, field trip leader, and lead saleswoman for the school fundraisers. She entertained traveling evangelists and missionaries, went on weekly visitation, and never missed a Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night at church.

Later in life, she and her husband built their dream home at Deer Point Lake, but regardless of where she lived, her home was always pristine, warm, and welcoming. In her later years she joined First Baptist Church where she was a faithful member until returning to Montgomery.

She is survived by her only daughter, Pam Anderson and her husband David. She leaves behind two granddaughters, Sharon Damelio and her husband Anthony; and Maggy Keet, her husband Andy, and their son Dashiell Collins Keet, whom she was blessed to meet before she died.

She is also survived by her only living sister, Dorothy Riddlebarger, and two nieces, Patricia Gerosolina and Gwen Sadler, who were like daughters, all with her when she died.

Her funeral will be held at Wilson Funeral Home at 11 AM on Monday, March 23rd with the viewing one hour prior to the service. She will be buried at Oakland Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Flynn.

In lieu of flower, donations in Della's memory can be made to First Baptist Church's Cornerstone Ministries.
