DAYTON LOGUE

Dayton Logue, of Panama City, passed away Monday, August 02, 2010. He moved to Panama City, Florida with his family from Dothan, Alabama in 1934. He graduated from Bay County High School in 1947, where he had been elected student body president and played on the football team. Dayton attended college at the University of Florida, where he was a cheerleader, joined Sigma Alpha Epsilon and graduated Blue Key. Later, Dayton graduated from the University of Florida, College of Law. He practiced law with his best friend, Julian Bennett his entire career, as well as Raymond Williams, Charlie Hilton, Judge Mercer Spear, Rob Blue, Jimmy Barr, Les Burke and others along the way. In the 1950's, he was elected public defender and later prosecutor for Panama City in the old city court system. During the 1960's, he served as a Panama City Judge. Dayton served on the Council for the Blind for the State of Florida, served as a president of the Downtown Rotary Club, and served on the board at Gulf Coast Community College. Dayton taught Asbury Sunday School at First United Methodist Church for almost 20 years. He was a longtime member of the Panama City Country Club and St. Andrew's Bay Yacht Club. Dayton loved sailing, even in the worst weather, and wind-surfed into his early sixties. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Gladys Logue. He is survived by his children, Lance Logue and wife, Diana, and their children, Andrew, Neal and Marina; Day Ann Logue and her daughter, Desmond Ann; Lloyd Logue and wife, Laurie, and their daughters, Lauren and Leah; brother, George Logue, Jr. and wife, Alice and their children, Bill and Marianne, former wife, Ann Logue-Todd; and close friends, Julian Bennett, Gene Cartledge, Byrd Farmer, D.D. Barbay and Jimmy Vause. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 6 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Salvation Army or your favorite charity in memory of Dayton Logue. Family and friends will gather on the Massalina Bay Drawbridge on Thursday at 6 p.m. to hear ships bells.
