Daniel Dean Kimmel
Daniel Dean Kimmel, 83, of Panama City, passed away Saturday night at 9:00 P.M. in his home after a long illness, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Betty Sue Spiva Kimmel; three sons, Richard Dean Kimmel and wife Regine of Cochran, Georgia; Alan Harrison Kimmel and Christopher Raymond Kimmel of Panama City; His grandchildren, Laura Copeland and husband Carl Copeland and her mother, Jacquie Thigpen of Lake Park, Georgia; Damon Kimmel and April Kimmel and their mother Jena Kimmel of Panama City and Richard Daniel Kimmel of Cochran, GA. His great grandchildren are Julia Claire Copeland and Eleanor Lee Copeland of Lake Park, Georgia; Also surviving are Brother-in-law Ernest Spiva and wife Martha, nephews Gary Spiva and Lee Spiva and niece Susan Spiva Brannen and husband James.
Daniel Dean Kimmel was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa July 9, 1925. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed at Tyndall Field in Panama City. After the war, he attended the University of Florida and graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts.
He was employed at Coastal Systems Center as a Technical Illustrator and Designer for 32 years. During this time, he designed the Sun Dial at the Panama City Marina as well as numerous buildings and projects at the Center. He retired in 1989.
Funeral services will be held in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, August 2nd at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 - 3 p.m. prior to the service. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Panama City Rescue Mission, 609 Allen Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Dan Kimmel.
