Daniel Webster Holt Jr.

Daniel W Holt Jr. 86 of Panama City, Florida passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 20th in his home with his family at his side. Dan was born April 28th 1923 in Montgomery, Alabama. Dan served as an Officer in World War II the United States Navy from 1943 until 1945. He then returned to college to meet and marry the love of his life of 59 years Betty Stapp Holt at Auburn University where he received an Engineering degree. Dan accepted a job with The Gulf Power Company in 1949 the same year he and Betty were married.

Dan, Betty and family moved to the Panama City area in 1963 when the Lansing Smith Generating Center was under construction in Southport. He served as the power plants only Manager until his retirement in 1988. During his time in Panama City Dan was involved with the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club where he formed deep friendships and was a big supporter of the sailing program for the young people. Dan always had a love for the sea and on countless occasions made long distance sailing trips with his close circle of friends, but what he loved the most was traveling with Betty along the coast of the United States while living aboard and living the good life. The finest trip Dan and Betty ever took was called the "Great Loop" which took them 9 months and entailed traveling from the Gulf of Mexico up the east coast and through the Great Lakes and back down the Mississippi River.

Dan asked that all of the special people in his and Betty's life be thanked for their caring friendships they were blessed to have over the years. He would also like to thank Katlyn and the staff and doctors at the Tommy Hamm Cancer center as well as his long time family physician Dr. Stephen Mullis. Dan also asked that Dixon Ross McCloy and family be thanked for their decades of friendship. At Dan's request there will be no formal service held but if you would like, a donation can be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.


Dan is survived by his three sons Daniel W. Holt III, William Stapp Holt and wife Cindy, David L. Holt and wife Ann. Six grandchildren; Danielle Holt Heller, Ashlyn Holt, Haley Holt, Amanda Brooke Holt (deceased), Natalie Holt Danburg and David Logan Holt along with 4 great-grandchildren.
