Obituary

Corene Coatney Sellars, 91, of Panama City, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2014. She was born on January 24, 1923 in Washington County and lived most of her adult life in Panama City. Being the oldest girl of eight living siblings, she filled the mother roll with her siblings at a very young age. She carried that special trait throughout her life – she was always in charge. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for over 63 years. She was an excellent seamstress and made most of her clothes as well as Gwenn's for many years. She formed the Sellars Sew & Sew Club and they met in "The Little House" at her house for many years. They made different arts and crafts and enjoyed lots of good food and fellowship. Corene was a determined woman. If you needed something done, just give it to her and get out of her way. There was no stopping her til the job was complete, which was a trait we all admired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. "Willard" Sellars in 2005; and her parents, Randle & Kate Register Coatney. She is survived by her daughter, Gwenn Sellars; brother, Shelton Coatney; special sister-in-law, Pat Coatney King, special brother-in-law, Hayward Shirey; very special longtime friends, Mildred & Jimmy Rodgers Sr.; dear friends, Willard Anderson and his son, Ken Anderson; and remaining members of the Sellars Sew & Sew Club, Allie Mae Brannon, Mildred Brannon, Merle Nelson, Mildred Rodgers, Marie Boykin, and Byrolyn Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. A private family graveside service will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial donations to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405, Immanuel Baptist Church, 216 College Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401, the Bay County Council on Aging, 1116 Frankford Avenue | Panama City, FL 32401 or to your favorite charity in memory of Corene Sellars.
