CLARISSA LAVERNE ELLIOTT HUBBARD
Clarissa LaVerne Elliott Hubbard passed away at Panama City Beach, Florida, December 16, 2008. Born December 29, 1918 at San Angelo, Texas, she was the daughter of Samuel Harrington Elliott and Flossie Smith. She moved to Lubbock as a youngster and was a 1937 graduate of Lubbock High School. She married R. Pete Hubbard November 14, 1937. Lt. Hubbard was a longtime member of the Lubbock Police Department. They raised their family in Lubbock during which time they were members of the Central Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hubbard has been a resident of Panama City Beach since 1989. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother she was a cheerful and gregarious person who enjoyed many friendships. She took pride in being able to maintain an independent lifestyle. She enjoyed playing bridge and bingo.
She is survived by daughters, Sammye Kay Larson and husband Gerald G. Larson of Houston and Johnnye Lynn Holt and husband Bob Holt of Panama City Beach, and sister, Bobbie Nell Chapman of Dallas, seven grandchildren, and seventeen great grand children. She will be missed by her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. H. Elliott, her husband R. Pete Hubbard, and son Allen Wayne Hubbard, former outdoor life writer for the Panama City News-Herald.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 20 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery in Lubbock, Texas. The family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock, Texas on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association. A celebration of life service will be held on Panama City Beach at a later date.
