CLARENCE LESLIE JINKS, JR.
Clarence Leslie "Les" Jinks, Jr., 82, of Panama City, died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, in his home surrounded by family. Les was born in Greenwood, SC, and moved to Panama City as a child. He graduated from Bay County High School in 1943 and spent 2 years of service in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He graduated from the University of Florida in 1949 with a degree in accounting and was an active businessman in the community for over 50 years. Les served as president and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Panama City Rotary Club; was president of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Military Affairs Committee; was a founding member and president of the Panama City Boys' Club; was Commodore of the St. Andrews Bay Yacht Club; and was a member of the Board of Directors of First Federal Regions Bank. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon for 8 years. Les is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Catherine Moody Jinks; son Russell Jinks and wife Nancy of Panama City; daughter Sue Robertson and husband John of Morrisville, NC; grandchildren Patrick Jinks and wife Kristen of Tampa, FL, Christopher Jinks of Tacoma, WA, Tommy Jinks and wife Claudia, of Ocala, FL, Matthew Jinks of Panama City, and Ben, Sam and Sarah Robertson of Morrisville, NC; brother-in-law Hugh Miller of Panama City; great granddaughter Riley Jinks of Palm Bay, FL; step grandchildren Paul Dykes of CA and David Dykes of Panama City; and step great grandchildren Ashley Dykes and Adam Dykes of CA. He was preceded in death by son Clarence L. "Skipper" Jinks, III; parents Clarence L. "Captain" Jinks, Sr. and Dorothy Sue Milam Jinks; and a sister, Dorothy Sue Parker. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Watson, Rev. Bill Larkin and Rev. Bob Hayes officiating. A graveside service will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Les Jinks may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church, the Boys' Club of Bay County or the Panama City Rescue Mission. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Marion Mathews, Dr. William Dent and caregivers Francis Nichols, Theresa Thorpe, Danielle Patton, Rosemary Oates and Laura Conn.
