Obituary

Clara "Evelyn" Holley Gamble, 89, of Panama City, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019. She was born to Walter Green Holley and Florria Velorah Stephens Holley on March 14, 1929. She was assisted into the world by Dr. Jabe McKinnon and Nanny Thompson. . Evelyn finished 1st through 12th grade in Cottondale, Florida. She attended Frazier Ellis Hospital School of Nursing in Dothan, Alabama to become a registered nurse, which she practiced for 45 years. She was married to Millard A. Hodges, Walter H. Thomas, Joe H. Daffin and finally in 1992 to her true love and first boyfriend, Andrew Tilley Gamble. They all preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Edwin Houston Holley, sister-in-law, Mildred Holley; niece Grace Holley Laroie, paternal & maternal grandparents, George Washington & Elizabeth Holley and Gabe & Clara Stephens, 18 aunts, uncles and several close friends. Evelyn was brought up in the Piney Grove Baptist Church, Cottondale and for the past 22 years has been a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Panama City, where she was active in Sunday School, B.T.C., Ladies Auxilary and sang in the choir until her health hindered her. She is survived by her daughter, Neta Velorah Westbrooks; granddaughter, Jennifer Pope; great granddaughter, Chloe Pope; daughter-in-law, Jane Fazio; and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Hankins officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Active pallbearers are Randy Dorriety, Ron Landergent, Frank Odom and Mark Duggar. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Keith Banton, Dr. Michael Morrow, Dr. Jeffrey Pyne, Dr. Dennis Healey, Dr. Tom Derbes, Dr. William Dent and Dr. Timimim. Since Evelyn was the "Eyes and Ears" for so many Doctors over the years that she wanted to recognize them on her last journey to meet the true healer "Jesus Christ", her Lord and Master. She will be waiting for us all in heaven to introduce us to Jesus and the preceding loved ones.
