CHRISTINE WALKER BROWN
Christine Walker Brown, 98, of Panama City, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. She was born on Sept. 2, 1915 in Donalsonville, GA to A. D. and Johnnie Caldwell Walker but claims Thomasville, GA as her hometown.
She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1933 and worked for her father as bookkeeper for the Georgia-Florida Baseball League. She married Henry Clay Brown, of Birmingham, AL Dec. 14, 1940 in Thomasville, GA. They moved to Statesboro where their first child David was born. They moved to Panama City in 1943 where their first and only daughter, Becky, was born. A few years later their youngest child, Richard was born. She worked part time in two well- known ladies apparel shops, Lillian Kilpatrick's and Schneiders. In the late 1950's she started working at Jinks Junior High School as bookkeeper and worked there until retirement in July 1983.
She volunteered for over 4,000 hours in the Gift Shop at Bay Medical, delivered bread to the Rescue Mission and the refuge house for abused spouses and participated in the Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program. She was the Mission Haven/Thornwell coordinator for many years and also sent cards of encouragement to Church members. She was a faithful member to her Church in service as well as attendance. These "behind the scenes" Christian activities and her sweet nature and southern lady charm endeared her to many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (May 5, 1994), her sister Genevieve Walker Casey and brother-in-law John C. Casey.
Christine is survived by her children David (Linda) of San Diego, CA, Becky (Robert) of Panama City and Richard (Jan) of Springfield NJ; grandchildren Kevin Agosta (Jessie) of Phoenix AZ, Steve Wallace of Panama City, Jon Brown of Portland OR and Mike (Willa) of Roselle Park NJ and one great granddaughter Lilah-Rae.
