Chloe graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, AL, in 1947. She then graduated with a B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1951. After marrying Earl J. Hadaway in 1953, they briefly lived in Los Angeles, CA, Selma, AL, and Montgomery, AL, before settling permanently in Panama City. They enjoyed sixty extraordinary years of marriage, and she was a cherished wife and mother. As a committed Christian she found a variety of ways to live out her faith. A long-time member of First Baptist Church, Panama City, she also played the flute in the church orchestra. Chloe was an integral member of the Women's Missionary Union and a longtime supporter of Camp Winnataska, a Christian camp for children outside of Birmingham, AL. She served for a period of time as executive secretary of the Bay County Mental Health Association, and when confronted with community needs of any sort, she was always ready to answer the call.
Chloe deeply loved the Lord and her family and friends, but she also had great affection for horses, babies, the flute, and wildflowers. An avid and life-long traveler, she spent 17 of the last 20 years working seasonally at Yellowstone National Park, making friends from every walk of life and immersing herself in the beauty of that great park. She was passionate about life, held strong opinions on almost every subject, and demonstrated great conviction about justice in every form. An unforgettable character has left this world, and as a result, the world will always be a little less colorful and a lot more tame. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church, Panama City, Florida. Guests are welcome to greet the family beginning at 6 p.m. and the service will start at 6:30 p.m.
