CHARLES GLENN WHEELUS
Charles Glenn Wheelus, 82, of Panama City, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at a nursing facility in Deatsville, Alabama.
He was born October 6, 1927 in Dothan, Alabama to Cody and Bernice Wheelus. Raised in Cottondale, Florida, he graduated from Cottondale High School in 1945 and was a member of the First Methodist Church. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving in the Army, he attended Tulane University graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He moved to Panama City in the early 1950's and was married to Kathryn Snead in 1955. They built The Sea Foam Court Motel on Thomas Drive and ran the motel for several years on Panama City Beach. He made his home in Panama City and was employed by Arizona Chemical Company for over 40 years retiring in 1992 as Tall Oil Plant Manager.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Snead Wheelus, his brother, C.W. Wheelus; sister-in-law, Ann Snead Warren; and son-in-law, John Hildensperger. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Walters (Patrick) of Millbrook, Alabama; his son, Mark Wheelus (Vicki) of Tampa, Florida; six grandchildren, Kristan Hildensperger, Megan Hildensperger, Matt Shaeffer (Sarah), Ashley Shaeffer, Andrea Hildensperger, Samuel Glenn Wheelus; and one great granddaughter, Presley Shaeffer. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Ray Warren, and his nieces, Cindy White and Pam Duncan all of Panama City and sister-in law, Rita Wheelus of Cottondale.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6th at 2 pm in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation for friends and family will be held immediately preceding the services on Saturday at the funeral home from 1 – 2 pm. Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery.
