Charles Jackson Nichols, 94, of Panama City, FL passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024. He was born on June 26, 1930 in Prentiss County, Mississippi to James R. and Lillian Ethel Nichols. He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ruth Nichols; his parents; brothers, Milford Nichols, Melvin Nichols, Ray Nichols and David Nichols; sisters, Marie Spencer, Frances Woodruff, and Gladys Owens. He is survived by his wife, Gracie Juanita Nichols; children, Jack Nichols (Mary), Gary Nichols (Marabeth), Karen Hendrickson (Dave), Christian "Chris" Klinck (Patti), Sally Gentili (David); thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; brother, J.M Nichols; sisters, Jane Kingsley (Jerry), Glenn Finch and numerous nieces and nephews.
Charles loved all the fun things in life, but his great love and legacy was his family. He considered that his greatest achievement. Charles had the most positive outlook anyone could have; he was always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. His roots in Mississippi shaped him into the person he was – devotion to family and friends. He made friends wherever he went – never met a stranger. He was a tireless reader and student of history and politics.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 11 am in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10-11 am prior to the service.
