Obituary

Charles E. Fox

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of “Fox”, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Born on May 7, 1941, in the vibrant community of Panama City, Florida, Fox lived a life rich in love, laughter, and service until his peaceful departure on October 6, 2026.

Fox was the loving son of Edward and Ora Kennington Fox, who preceded him in death, along with his grandparents, Dow and Bama Kennington; his mother & father-in-law, Edgar & Collie Zelm & brother-in-law, Billy Zelm; His brothers, Joe and Donald Fox, Renee Fox; Kenneth and David Fox and his beloved son, Anthony Scot Fox on July 4, 2024.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Z. Fox. They met while attending Jinks Jr. High School and their union began after graduating from Bay County High School in 1959. He embarked on a journey with the U.S. Navy and served as radioman on a minesweeper stationed at Panama City Beach. His naval service took him across the world, including a memorable tour of duty in Italy.

He came back wearing that Navy uniform and fell in love and were married on August 29, 1961 and together they built a life marked by love and devotion. (Just celebrated their 65th anniversary). After his honorable service in the military, Fox returned to civilian life, embarking on a career that spanned over five decades.

He began working with Johnny Patronis installing music in businesses, then the team at Port St. Joe Paper Mill, later transitioning to Arizona Chemical Co. and Kraton until his retirement in September 2025 after 50 years of dedicated service.

Together they raised four sons: Darrell, Russell, Stephen and Anthony. Russell lives in Tupelo, MS with his wife, Nicole and they share a son, Wilson.

There are many other family members and friends who have held a special place in his heart. Ann Kennington Raffield, Arlene Harrison, Linda Fox, Perrie Fox Hord, Cameron, Duncan & Graham Hord. Timothy Fox & Daniel Fox. Rufus Lynn Green of Gainesville, FL and a short brown Chihuahua named Chipper along with a few adopted cats.

Fox was a man of many talents and interests and could fix anything. He was an Active Member of the Panama City Amateur Radio Club, where his contributions as Emergency Coordinator were invaluable, particularly during hurricanes. His passion for amateur radio was evident at local “ham fests” where he frequently triumphed in Morse Code contests and others. Known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Fox could engage in conversation with anyone, whether across the room or across the globe.

He was a Lifetime Member of Amvets Fl Post 2298; The American Legion Post 0392; Parker VFW Aux 8205 and a Golden Eagle Member of NRA.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his primary care doctor Dr. Adhal and “Z”. The doctors and staff at Bay Hospital and Special Select Care, and the compassionated team at Pruitt for their exceptional care of “Mister Charles”.

Special thanks are extended to Kraton Chemical Company and United Chemical Workers Union and a very special friend James Snow. Thanks to another special friend, Charlie Wooten of the Panama Amateur Radio Club and for providing a special addition to the memorial services of “Silent Keys”.

To a longtime friend and neighbor Virginia McClain of Callaway and Rufus Lynn Green of Gainesville.

To the Sisters and Brothers of the Order of the Easten Star and Panama Chapter #102 for their food preparation and their unwavering support and kindness.

Special help and support from Marjorie Vassie, Brenda & Howard Henricks, Brenda French, Barbara & April Day and Wilson Funeral Home.

A service to honor and celebrate Fox’s life will be held on Monday, October 19, 2026 at Wilson Funeral Home, located at 214 Airport Road, Panama City, Florida. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Craig Brannon officiating. A flag presentation and playing of taps will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. A special presentation of Amateur Radio Club “Silent Keys” will be given by Charlie Wooten.

The family kindly suggests that any donations be made to Diabetes Research or American Cancer Society or one of your choice in memory of “Fox”.

A map is enclosed for directions to the Panama Masonic Lodge in Callaway for friendship, food and fellowship with Order of the Eastern Star sponsored by Panama Chapter No. 102.
