Obituary

Charles Rhein Floyd, 87, died in his Panama City Beach home on Saturday, March 2, 2019. He grew up in Ben Avon, Pennsylvania, where he was a small but tenacious guard on the football team. He then went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburg and joined the United States Air Force, where he had the opportunity to work with peers and train new young officers. He flew 265 missions over Vietnam as a navigator/bombardier. Over his 28 year Air Force career, he took his family to Texas, the Philippines, New Mexico, Arizona and Spain. During such a busy schedule, he also took the time to be involved in the lives of his children and coached high school baseball and football teams where he would touch the lives of so many. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he followed in his father's footsteps by becoming an Episcopal priest. Father Chuck would go on to preach many great sermons at St. Thomas by the Sea Episcopal Church for more than 25 years, where he was loved by many. He also had a huge love for his grandchildren, cars and Hawaii. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver Reed Floyd and Laura Rhein Floyd, sister Margaret Kaufman, first wife, Joanne Pfeifer Floyd; and second wife, Celia Wiley Floyd. He is survived by son, Rob (Darlene) Floyd and daughters, Jan Floyd and KorI Greenberg, four grandchildren, Pfeifer Floyd, Terri Gainer, Kaliya Rhein Gainer, Aisha Moneymaker; his sweetheart, Ann Lahan and longtime friend, Nancy Knapp. Now we all have so many stores to tell and ways to live his legacy just as he did with the Aloha spirit, to interact rightfully in the natural world. "Aloha" means harmony, helpfulness, humility and unity. More than a greeting, it is a way of life. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. in the St. Thomas By the Sea Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to One Positive Place, P.O. Box 203, Lynn Haven, FL 32444.
