Charles was born in 1931 in Sneads, FL as the youngest of eight siblings.  After serving as a mechanic on fighter aircraft in the US Navy from 1951-55, Charles went on to earn a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Florida in 1963.  He also received a Master of Science from the University of Southern California in 1975.  Charles began his engineering career at Brookley Air Force Base in Mobile, Alabama and in 1965 relocated to the Naval Coastal Systems Center where he worked until his retirement in 1998.

He was an active member of the community, serving as an elder at both St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and Grace Presbyterian Church, and also as the President of the St. Andrews Kiwanis Club. Charles was also active in the Oakland Terrance Men's Club.  After retirement, Charles enjoyed traveling the world with his wife, friends, children, and grandchildren. He loved working on crossword puzzles and was an avid fan of the Florida Gators. Charles will be remembered for his faith, wisdom, selflessness, wit, and smile.

As an active member of several area Masonic bodies for more than 50 years, Charles was a Past Master of St. Andrews Lodge No. 212.  His record as the Past High Priest, Past Illustrious Master, and Past Eminent Commander of the York Rite earned him the KYCH medal.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and a Noble of the Shaddai Shriners. With the Shrine, he served as a member of the color guard unit, Temple photographer, and worked in the Children's Transportation Office for over 10 years transporting local children to Shrine Hospitals throughout the country.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Dickson, whom he met while pursuing his degree at the University of Florida. He is also survived by sons Chuck Dickson, Jr (Jill) of Kansas City, MO, David Dickson (Cheri) of Crestview, FL, and Tod Dickson (Shannon) of Ridgefield, CT, grandchildren Stephanie Hogan (Michael) of Kansas City, MO, Chase Dickson (Emma) of Chicago, IL, Alissa, Andrew, and Austin Dickson of Crestview, FL, and Katie Dickson of Ridgefield, CT, great-grandchildren Cameron and Rylie Hogan of Kansas City, MO, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Keith and Alice Colvin of Lynn Haven, FL. The family thanks Dr. Vickie Harrell and staff for their care, and the staff at Superior Residences of Panama City Beach.
