Armstrong
December 5, 1935 – July 28, 2024
Charles "Rex" Armstrong, 88, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2024 at The BeeHive Assisted Living Facility in Lynn Haven, FL.
Rex was born in Panama City, FL on December 5, 1935 to Wilbur and Lottie Armstrong. He graduated from Bay High School in Panama City, FL on June 1, 1953. He owned and operated Six Ten Jiffy Stores in the Bay County area until he retired. Rex loved playing golf and had a standing tee time every week with his friends until he outlived them. However he discovered his love for travel and he and Mary were fortunate enough to cruise to Hawaii, Alaska and Nova Scotia; took tours to Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Rome and Paris. Rex loved to eat and didn't always enjoy the food in different countries. He would rather have a homemade buttermilk biscuit with fresh fig preserves.
Rex was a member of First Baptist Church of Panama City and served as a greeter at the 7th street entrance.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Mary Ester Armstrong of Lynn Haven, FL; daughters, DeeDee Armstrong, Darlene Barker (Randy), Deniece Hutchison (Dow) and Diane Stewart; step daughter, Rhonda Brattain (Rob); step son, Ronnie McGill (Christina); sister, Joyce Baxley (Johnny) and brother, Gerald Armstrong (Sylvia). He has twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Lottie Armstrong; older brother, Wade Armstrong; first wife, Geraldine, mother of his four girls; grandson, Daniel Dykes and son-in-law, Richard Stewart.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11 am in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service in the Greenwood Cemetery, on Lisenby Avenue. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 am prior to the service.
