Catherine Marie Whitmire passed away on July 24, 2025 in her home surrounded by her family. Catherine was born on December 12, 1940 in Cambridge, Ohio to Clarence and Catherine Grubbs.

Throughout her life, Catherine held several jobs. As a young girl she delivered newspapers and worked at a bakery. After high school, she lived in Minnesota and attended school to become an airline ticket agent. She also worked as a telephone operator in Ohio and Maine. She proudly served at the Panama City Police Department for 17 years, retiring as the first civilian Property Evidence Custodian in 2003.

Catherine's most important work was as a wife and mother. She and Bill raised four children while he served in the Navy. Catherine loved her family deeply and took great care of them. She always rose to the challenge, even when Bill was deployed and she was caring for four young children by herself. The Whitmire home was the place for all holidays, birthdays, and other family gatherings. Catherine so enjoyed planning and preparing for every one of them.

Catherine is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Catholic nun, Sister Mary Bride Grubbs. Left to treasure her memory are her husband of 62 years, Bill Whitmire; children Kay (Dennis) Landingham, Bill (Diana) Whitmire, George Whitmire, MaryBeth (Darryl) Styron; grandchildren Joshua Landingham, Megan (Kyle) Watson, Mallory Landingham, Hannah (Emerson) Matter, Amber Gremillion, Evan Whitmire, and AnnMarie Henriquez;  great-grandchildren Benjamin Miskopf and Emerson Matter; brother Patrick (Trish) Grubbs; special cousin Ted Hoey; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held on August 2, 2025 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church at 10:00 am with burial at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
