CAROLYN SIMPSON WELLS

Carolyn Simpson Wells, 84, of Panama City, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2011 in her home. She was born May 23, 1927 in Florala, Alabama. She was a graduate of Bay High School, received a certificate of Catering from Haney Vocational School and earned a Bachelor's of Religious Education from Gulf Coast Seminary. She was a retired lunchroom manager at Jinks Middle School. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening and reading. She did all facets of church work including: women's leadership, teaching and working with babies and toddlers. She was generous and always helped provide food, clothes, and encouragement to the hurting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Eugene Wells, Sr; sons, David Stephen Wells, William E. Wells, Jr. and wife Carol; and her sister, Wyvetta Simpson. She is survived by her three daughters, Carol Ann Hughes, Gladys Louise Freeman, Rosalind Wyvetta Griffin; five grandchildren, Joe Hughes (Rosemary), Scott Wells (Renée), Michael Freeman (Lisa), Michelle Freeman, Melissa Griffin; three great grandchildren, Joey Hughes, Isabella Wells and Amelia Hughes; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by her personal friends, Rev. Hilton Foster and Rev. Bob Claycomb and her nephew, Rev. Jack Wells. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 – 11 a.m. prior to the service.
