Carolyn Rose Larkins Garner
Carolyn, a resident of Lynn Haven, Florida, died unexpectedly on July 16, 2019 in Sky Valley, Georgia at the age of 73.
She was born and raised in Hoboken, Georgia.
Carolyn was predeceased by her parents, John Floyd Larkins and Jennie Wallis Larkins; a brother, John Knox Larkins, Sr. and a sister, Olivia Ann Larkins.
She was survived by her husband, Jim Garner; a son, Greg Garner, his wife Ginny; two grandsons, James and Neill Garner; a daughter, Renee Garner Jernigan, her husband Jay; a brother, Wallis Larkins; a sister-in-law, Kay Wiggins; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Carolyn graduated from Hoboken High School in 1964 and Georgia College in 1968 with a degree in education. She began her teaching career in Manor, Georgia in 1968. She married Jim in December 1968 and moved to Panama City, Florida where she continued her teaching career at Hiland Park Elementary School. Carolyn taught several different grades at Hiland Park from January 1969 until her retirement as a classroom teacher in 2005. While teaching at Hiland Park, she received the honor of being named Florida Elementary Science Teacher of the Year in 1991. She continued working as a course facilitator for Beacon Educator from 2005 until her death.
Carolyn was a member of Panama Country Club and currently was serving as treasurer of the Women's Auxiliary Golf Association. She also was the current treasurer of the Delta Tau Chapter of Florida Alpha Delta Kappa. Carolyn enjoyed playing golf with her friends and family and playing bunco with her friends. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Panama City.
Carolyn was cremated in Clayton, Georgia. A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 22nd at 1 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, 214 Airport Road in Panama City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Carolyn's remains will be buried in Sandersville, Georgia at a graveside service in August. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to make donations can make them to your favorite charity.
