Born in Sommerville, Massachusetts to Glenn Long and Mary Catherine Cain.
Anne married Carroll Herndon, where they lived in Garden Grove, California, a home they raised eight children. In 1979 Anne meet her husband to be Gene, through her church. to help his terminally ill wife, while he went to sea. She was one of seven women who took a day a week to manage care for his wife and three children. His wife Lorna lost her long battle with cancer on May 27, 1980. Anne and Gene were later married
Anne got her GED, learned to drive, worked in the retail clothing business, shipping/receiving and markdowns. She enjoyed the privilege of sailing with Gene on his ship for 30 days each year. They spent a Christmas together at sea, celebrated an anniversary, in New Orleans, where they enjoyed breakfast brunch at the Court of the Two Sisters.
After his retirement in December of 1999, they shared the joy of RV'ng, for 7 years with their 34 foot Windsport, followed by their Saturn in tow.
Together they dedicated their lives to healthy spiritual Life. Gene participated in a multitude of ministries at Forest Park Church. They enjoyed VBS together, she supported him filling the Pulpit as a Certified Lay Speaker. Often going over his notes for clarity and spelling. She alongside Gene were Active in their Panama City Gideon Camp. As an Auxiliary Member she passed out Bibles at Nursing homes.
On February 25, 2021 Anne and Gene got the news of her Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis. Like all things in their life, they did it together with love, caring and joy. Joy in knowing she passed peacefully alone in Gene's presence While holding hands. But with the greatest joy, an eternal life with her savior Jesus.
She is survived by her adoring husband 0f 43 years, Eugene (Gene) Zweigle, two half-sisters Jane Hoekstra (Ralph) Patricia Vicente.
By her eight loving children, Nada Chatwell (Jim), Steven Herndon (Theresa), Michael Herndon (Peggy), Craig Herndon (Lori), Lori Watson, Terri Capece (Frank), Jeff Herndon, Paul Herndon, two step children, Christine Zweigle, Brian Zweigle (Allison), Nine wonderful Grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and so many friends, that have loved her dearly.
She was predeceased in death by her parent's, father Glenn Long, step father Mike Milliken, mother Mary Long - Milliken, former husband Carroll Herndon, brother James Long, step daughter Rachelle Zweigle, adopted grandson Kelly Aaron Kading.
Anne had a warm place in her heart for her Special Needs Grandson, Corey Capece, son of Terri and Frank Capece. Also, the care and compassion of Vitas Hospice throughout the journey. The family expresses their thank you to the many others too numerous to mention.
There will be a Celebration of Her Life on Saturday July 27th at Forest Park Church. Family visitation will Be from 10:30am to 11:00, Service 11:00 to noon. After the service, all are invited to a buffet lunch.
In Lieu of flowers, Anne requested donations be directed in her name to the following or a Charity of your choosing.
