Carol Bernice Ham

Carol Bernice Ham of West Bay, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Community Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 95.

Ms. Ham was born to Mr. Travis Beloved Turner and Mrs. Alline Beckey Turner on August 25, 1914 in Houston County, Alabama. Ms. Ham enjoyed playing basketball, attending peanut shelling parties, wood sawing parties and swimming at the Power Dam as a child. She was also skillful in making beautiful quilts. She gave her heart to the lord at the age of twelve at the Pilgrim Home Church in Alabama.

She was married to Lewis Maxwell Thweatt at the age of 18. She moved to West Bay in 1953 and operated the L. M. Thweatt cafe and fish market. Ms. Ham later worked in the food service department at West Bay Elementary School. She married Millard Ham in 1970 after the death of her first husband. She lived a full and rewarding life and was committed to her faith.

She had four sisters and two brothers that have preceded her in death. Ms. Ham had two sons, John Travis Thweatt and David Hugh Thweatt, that have preceded her in death. Ms. Ham is survived by a daughter, Judy Carol Pate of West Bay; eight grandchildren, Mary Holley, Kathy Day, Angie Sellers, Lisa Frederickson, Rachel Spikes, Anne Danvers, Linda Wagner and Laura Thweatt; fifteen great grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Virgil Tillman and Rev. Paul Ensminger officiating. Interment will follow in West Bay Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 5 – 7 p.m.

The family expresses many thanks to all of the wonderful people at Covenant Hospice and to the staff of Community Health and Rehabilitation. Mary, Sara, and Virgil have all earned the right to call her MeMaw. Lillian Clark, words cannot express our gratitude your service exemplifies the Love of God.
