Carla Nicolette Rietkerk, age 54, of the District of Columbia, passed away on January 19, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones. Born on February 9, 1971, Carla N. Hunt lived a life defined by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Her warmth, strength, and generosity touched countless hearts throughout her life.
Carla was well known for her 23-year bartending career at Ms. Newby’s, where she became a beloved presence and built lifelong friendships. During those years, she pursued her education with determination, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Public Safety and Security from Florida State University.
In the later years of her career, Carla dedicated herself to public service at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s MEPIC unit as a Senior Crime Intelligence Analyst. Her work recovering missing persons, issuing AMBER and Silver Alerts, and tracking down criminals and absconders made a profound impact on families across Florida. Her commitment to justice and her drive to help others were at the core of who she was.
Friends and family will remember Carla for her adventurous spirit, her tireless work ethic, her fierce loyalty, and her deep love of music. She lived boldly, cared deeply, and gave generously. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
