Obituary

Captain L.O.G. Whaley, USN, Retired, age 88, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011.

He was born March 26, 1923 in Ocala, FL, the youngest of three children, to Ida and William D.G. Whaley. He was preceded in death by Ethel, his wife of 50 years.

"LOG" was raised by his parents on a cattle ranch in Ocala, FL. He enlisted in the Navy after high school, serving his country during World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from North Carolina University, a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT and a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University. After 32 years of service, he retired as Commanding Officer of the Naval Coastal Systems Laboratory in 1973 then spent the next 30 years in the Real Estate and Hotel Business.

He is survived by his Son and Daughter-in-law, Michael & Lynne Whaley; Son and Daughter-in-law, William & Laura Whaley; Daughter, Margaret Whaley Morejon; and son, John Whaley; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.

He loved hunting, fishing, scalloping, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.
He was a loving father and will be greatly missed by all his family.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
