Bryant S. Bishop, age 92, of Panama City, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026. He was born on May 20, 1933, in Panama City, Florida, to Avery and Doris Bishop, who preceded him in death.
Bryant was also preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Bishop. He is survived by his brother Douglas Bishop and sister-in-law Joan, and numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.
He leaves behind his children Steve Bishop; Terry Bishop and wife Jacky; Cathy King and husband Pat; and Pam Thatcher and husband Lynn. He was especially proud of his eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who brought great joy to his life.
Bryant held a special place in his heart for his Aunt Geraldine and Uncle Clark, who helped raise him and were a guiding influence in his early years.
A man of strength, adventure, and dedication, Bryant served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He later served with the Highway Patrol and retired from the Marine Patrol. Following his love of the water, he became a tugboat captain and boat pilot, retiring at the age of 79. He also enjoyed flying and held his pilot’s license. At one point, he rebuilt his own shrimp boat and spent many cherished hours shrimping and sailing.
In his younger years, Bryant enjoyed weightlifting, boxing, and square dancing. He was known for his quick wit and playful spirit — a true jokester who loved making people laugh — and had a deep love for old country music.
Bryant spent the last three years of his life at the Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans' Nursing Home. The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff there, as well as the kindness and support of Emerald Coast Hospice, who provided comfort and dignity in his final days.
A funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6525 Lake Drive, Callaway, FL, on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, interment will be held at the Millville Cemetery. The service will also be live-streamed for family and friends who are unable to attend in person.
Bryant will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his devotion to family, and his enduring love for the water and sky. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched and the family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
