Bobby Gene Oster, 82, passed away on 9/7/ 2018 at Gulf Coast Hospital in Panama City, Florida. Born in Evansville Indiana he was the son of John S and Annabelle Oster (Smith).
Bobby grew up in the small town of Elberfeld, Indiana where his family owned the Oster's Motel and Restaurant. He had fun wandering the streets of Elberfeld and Evansville and always knew how to have fun. He enlisted in the Army at age 16 and was discharged after being "caught". He later again reenlisted and was a Veteran, a Master Mason and Shriner and an avid friend of the poor. After marrying Sandra Dillingham of McCutchanville, they relocated to Northern Indiana where he began working at Midwest Steel and became of member of the United Steel Workers Union. There he attended Purdue University and lived in Wanatah, Indiana where he spent many years being the neighborhood "Dad" and "Big Toy" to his daughter's friends. After retiring from Midwest Steel for medical reasons, he traveled around the world with many of his very close friends and relatives and finally settled in Panama City Beach, Florida where he became a property entrepreneur. He would often laugh after the windfall 2007 property rush that he had done pretty well for an 'ole boy from Elberfeld. Bobby also authored two books about his perspectives on life. Bobby was truly a family man, always providing for every member of his immediate family. He was also a friend to those in need and known as "Mr. Nice Guy." He could and would fix almost anything, for anyone, anytime. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, handyman skills, and by his friends and neighbors as the man always greeting people on his back porch and helping anyone who asked. He was a great dad, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also an awesome pet grandfather to Rex, Zoey, Clover, Jakey, Tiki, Falcor, Paisleigh, and Deuce the Wonder Dog. He loved them all. I'm pretty sure he is running around with Rex, Tiki and Jakey right now and visiting with the bunch.
He is survived by his sister Norita (Rete) Martin of Elberfeld Indiana, Daughters Leslee L. Oster of Panama City Beach, Florida and Vicki M Wagoner of Hanna, Indiana; Grandchildren Hailey Paige Oster, Jessica Tuesday Wagoner, Bobbi Jean Rans, Brandon Rans, and great-grandchildren Johnny and Layne. He is also survived by his friend and former wife, Sandra Alm (Dillingham). He is predeceased by his parents and brother, John Ronald (Cricket) Oster, sister in law Arlene Oster; brother in law Bill Martin and beloved granddaughter, Meggan. He now is her Papa in Heaven. He leaves a legacy of "adopted grandchildren," truly very unique and awesome friends, and extended family great nieces and nephews and their children.
In lieu of flowers or cards, he would want you to do something nice for someone. Have a laugh. Sit on the porch.
The family would like to thank Don Hunt for all his help and love to Dad.
Home is the Sailor, home from the sea and the Hunter home from the hill. As he would remind us, "All we are is dust in the wind".
Love you always Papa
