IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bobbie Jean
Lewis Murphy
June 4, 1941 – August 29, 2020
Bobbie Jean Lewis Murphy, age 79, of Panama City, Florida, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at her home on Saturday, August 29, 2020, after suffering from dementia. She was born at home on June 4, 1941, in Panama City, Florida, and was one of seven children.
As a lifelong resident of Bay County, she made great friends and celebrated wonderful milestones here throughout her life. She helped with the family business alongside her father at Coastal Metals for many years. Bobbie Jean was a proud graduate of the Bay High School Class of '59. After high school, she married the love of her life, Royal Murphy, and together they raised their only son, Michael. She maintained a happy home while supporting Royal as he built their family business, Key Electrical Supply, Inc. alongside their son. She loved being a mother and grandmother, and with Royal by her side, supported her boys in all of their childhood activities. She attended City Church and was an active member of the "Sonshine Class."
Known for her southern hospitality, Bobbie Jean's "open door policy" and love for entertaining ensured that friends and family always felt welcome. Bobbie Jean never met a stranger, and she made and maintained friendships wherever she went. Her favorite activities included traveling the country to watch Florida State football, attending weddings, baby, and bridal showers, volunteering with the Jaycettes and the Gulf Coast Women's Club, and participating in WAGA. Bobbie Jean was a world-class cook. Known for her delicious white acre peas and mouthwatering pound cake, nothing made her happier than preparing these specialties for friends and family.
She spent the last days of her life surrounded by family and friends. Singing was a favorite family activity over the years, and her brothers and husband serenaded her with her favorite song, "You Are My Sunshine," before she passed.
Bobbie Jean was preceded in death by her father, Floyd A. Lewis, and mother, Catherine Wright Lewis; her brother, Mallie Joe Lewis; her sister, Freida Lewis Dunlap (Brian); and two sisters-in-law, Levada Cobb (Buren) and Earline Vernon (Adrian).
