Obituary

Billy Gene Wicker, 80, of Southport, Florida passed away on August 15, 2014. He was born in Florala, Alabama and spent his early years in Millville, Florida. He married his childhood sweetheart, Ina Joy Singletary, and they had four children, Billy Gene, Jr., Ina Joy, Rosemary and Stephen Andrew. He was a member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Panama City, Florida. He was employed by Ideal Baking Company and Sunbeam Baking Company for many years as a supervisor and later worked with St. Joe Box Plant. He loved sports and played softball and bowled with local teams in his earlier years. He loved watching all sports on TV and was a die-hard Western movie fan. He was also a great fan of Hank Williams and loved to listen to his music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved being at home and was happy to work alongside his wife, Ina Joy, in maintaining the garden and their yard. He was always ready for visits with his family and enjoyed drinking coffee around the kitchen table or on his back porch overlooking Deer Point Lake. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ina Joy, and by his children, Gene Wicker (Kathleen), Joy Conrad (Ted) and Rosemary Martin and was preceded in death by his youngest son, Stephen and his son-in-law, Aubrey Martin. He is survived by nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express a special thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice and Seabreeze Health Care for the attentive care that the aides, nurses and staff provided to Mr. Wicker during his recent illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in memory of Mr. Wicker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Panama City, Florida. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons David Price, Jonathan Conrad, James Wicker and John Wicker, and great-grandsons, Austin Conrad and Caleb Mitchell. He is now dwelling in the house of the Lord and resting in love and peace.
