Betty Ann Hopkins Holmead, 83, of Lynn Haven, FL passed away at her home Sunday, July 31, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born September 22, 1938 in Annapolis, Maryland to Thomas Weller Hopkins and Mary Ellen Lockett.
She met the love of her life, John Henry Holmead III, known as Jack to all who knew him, in April of 1958 and they were married just 6 months later. The proud wife of a military man, she was strong and independent, raising 4 girls while her husband was at sea serving in the United States Coast Guard. Betty loved baking, sewing, knitting, making countless prayer shawls, blankets and baby clothes. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Weller and Mary Ellen Hopkins; her husband, Capt. John Henry Holmead III, USCG Ret.; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Angy Nichols and brother-in-law, Frank Miller. She is survived by her 4 daughters, Kathryn Moore (Paul), Julie Lewis, Sharon Pusateri (Joe), Amy Wilson (Steve); 7 grandchildren, Samantha Hoy (Eric), John Stephen Wilson IV, Jessica Moore, Laura Beth Pierson (Mitch), Leanne Lewis, Jennifer Moore, Sam Lewis; a soon to be great grandson, Brooks Thomas Pierson, a second great grandchild due in January; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Patti Hopkins; sister-in-law, Carol Miller and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Panama City, FL on Thursday, August 4 at 11 am in special recognition of Coast Guard Day. Interment will be held in the Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service.
Those desiring may make contributions to First United Methodist Church of Panama City, FL or the American Cancer Society in memory of Betty Holmead. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Bruce Josten and the nurses of Covenant Care Hospice.
