Obituary

Betty Sims Heaton, 94, of Panama City, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 in her home.  She was born April 3, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia.  She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL.  She met her husband, Donald in Montgomery while he was stationed at Maxwell A.F.B.  She was a retired executive secretary for Gulf Power Company.  Betty was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Panama City, where she taught 2 nd Grade Sunday School for over 30 years and sang in the church choir for over 40 years.  She was also a member of the W.M.U. and the Lions Club Auxiliary.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Donald Heaton; parents, William & Cora Sims; brother, Bill Sims; three sisters, Jeanette Mangrum, Frances Smith and Phyllis Jo Cauthen.  She is survived by a daughter, Donna Heaton; son, Stan Heaton and wife, Robin; three granddaughters, April Lynne Nelson, Natasha Arlecia Heaton, Brianna Lynne Heaton and numerous nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers are Rusty Hudson, Mark Williams, Jaime Holmes, Timothy Kirkland, Austin McCombs and Gary Kline. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Panama City or to the Shaddai Shriners Transportation Fund in memory of Betty Heaton.
