Betty L. Gore, 89, of Grant, Alabama, went to be with the Lord June 28, 2025. Betty was raised in Holmes County, Florida, by Cyrus and Bessie Vaughan. Betty was the second of 8 children, having 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
After graduating from Ponce de Leon High School, Betty worked for Chemstrand in Pensacola as a quality control inspector. In 1958, she met the love of her life, Tony Gore, who was stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station. They were married in 1961, and she began the life of a military wife, living in several different cities across the United States, finally settling in Jacksonville, Florida, where they lived for 41 years. In 2013, she and Tony moved to Grant, Alabama, to live near their son.
Betty enjoyed life to the fullest. She was an avid outdoors person, enjoying going on walks, birdwatching, and beautiful plants and flowers. She was a talented artist, a competitive bowler and a devoted fan of the Florida Gators and the Atlanta Braves. Above all, Betty loved the Lord and her family.
Betty is preceded in death by her father, Lee Roy Vaughan, who passed when she was 3 years old; mother, Bessie Vaughan; and father, Cyrus Vaughan; sister Nell Allen, and her life-long friends, Bob and Myrtle Perrault.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Tony Gore; one son, Mark Gore and wife Michelle; two granddaughters, Meghan Cribbs and Morgan Gore; one grandson, Maxton Gore; two great-granddaughters, Roselynn Cribbs and Oaklynn Cribbs; one great- grandson, Hayden Painter, all of Grant, AL; siblings, Jeanine Wise, Panama City, FL; Clayton Vaughan, Panama City, FL; Virginia Bowers, Borger, TX; Carolyn King, Climax, GA; Gale Tracey, Findley, OH; Woodrow Vaughan, DeFuniak Springs, FL; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Graveside services will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Panama City, FL, with Dr. Bruce Barton officiating.
