Betty Mowat Andrews

Betty Mowat Andrews, 85, of Lynn Haven, died Monday, September 10, 2012. She was born at home on October 19, 1926, to Donald and Margaret Mowat who first came to Lynn Haven in 1913, and later founded Mowat Dairy. Betty attended elementary school in Lynn Haven and graduated as salutatorian from Bay High School in 1944. Betty attended Florida State College for Women, which became Florida State University her senior year. She graduated in 1948, with a BS in Business Education and Social Studies. She began her teaching career at Bay High School, and in the fall of 1961, joined the original faculty of Rutherford High School where she taught until her retirement in 1987. In 1991, she received the Outstanding Former Vocational
Teacher of the Year Award.
Betty was active in various community affairs and organizations. She was a life member of the Lynn Haven Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest honor given by the Lions. Betty was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and Rebekah Lodges in Lynn Haven, and the Florida Farm Bureau. In the 1960s, she also served on the founding Board of Directors of the Boys Club of Bay County. She was on the Supervisory Committee for Panhandle Federal Educators Credit Union for many years. She was involved with other family members in the development of the Mowat Highlands subdivision.
She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, which she joined in 1938. Betty was an ordained elder and received an Honorary Life Membership in Presbyterian Women.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 61 years, Sandy W. Andrews; three brothers, Donald Mowat (Irene), William Mowat, James Mowat (Marion); sister and brothers-in-law, Helene and Chester Arrington, and Harry Johnson. She is survived by five children, Marti Willis (Charles), Marcia Forehand (Benny), Bill Andrews (Lisa) and James Andrews, all of Lynn Haven, and Janet Williams (Peter) of Tallahassee, FL; seven grandchildren, Chris Forehand (Kelly), Tyler Andrews, Hudson Williams, Dillon Williams, Skye Williams, Jessica Willis, and Talitha Locklear; two great grandchildren, Cason Forehand and Conolly Forehand; sister-in-law, Elsie Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her special caregiver, Charlene Lamar.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven with the Reverend Dr. Dan Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Lynn Haven Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
