BESSIE RUTH LAWRENCE TRAPPE
Bessie Ruth Lawrence Trappe, 84, of Panama City, FL, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in her home. She was born in Dellwood, Florida (Jackson County) on September 19, 1926. After finishing high school in Marianna, Florida, she moved to Tallahassee and worked for the state at the Industrial Commission. She met her husband Owen while he was stationed at Dale Mabry Field. They were married two years later on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947 in Tallahassee. They moved to Panama City in September 1947.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved and enjoyed her family and the many reunions she helped with. All her friends had a very special place in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Owen. She was an active and faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church since 1949, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving as a greeter in the Welcome Center.
She was an active member of Bay County Farm Bureau and served on the Board for many years, also serving as chairman of the women's activities for some 30 plus years. Her favorite project was preparing the "goodie bags" for the kidney patients on dialysis every Christmas. Being a farm girl, she always enjoyed canning and baking for the county fair and going home with many blue ribbons every year.
As a member of the Willing Hands Homemakers Club, she really enjoyed learning new crafts and ideas. She was a happy, cheerful and smiling person. Everyone who knew her, loved her. She loved gospel music and enjoyed traveling with Anna Lois Braswell (who preceded her in death on June 28, 2011) as her companion to foreign countries and in the states with tour mission trips.
She was an active member of the H2U group sponsored by Gulf Coast Hospital. Her specialty was greeting and registering members for Lunch Bunch.
She is survived by four sons, Stan Trappe and wife Carolella, of Panama City, Karl Trappe, of New Jersey, Jon Timothy Trappe, of Panama City, Keith Trappe and wife Tammy, of Youngstown; grandchildren, Carleigh Trappe Rodriguez and husband Eduardo, Nathan Trappe, Karen Qurioz and husband Antone, Todd Trappe and wife Sarah, Cari Trappe, and Jennifer Trappe; great grandson, Easton Qurioz; sister, Ruby L. Guinn, of Greenville, SC; two brothers, Vester Lawrence and wife Jane, of Apple Valley, CA, Richard Lawrence and wife Adel, of Pensacola; six nieces and nephews, Kay Guinn, Richelle Donney, Alan Lawrence, Elizabeth Hathaway, Mark Lawrence and Cindy Cherry. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Immanuel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make memorial donations to Immanuel Baptist Church, 216 College Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Bessie Ruth Trappe.
