Brother Benton Hamm was born December 5, 1933 to Bascom and Kate Hamm, died November 22, 2012. He was a graduate of Sneads High School and attended Chipola College. He was a conductor for 40 years for the AN Railroad of Port St. Joe. He coached Babe Ruth baseball, women's softball, umpired high school baseball and basketball and men's softball. He played baseball with the Port St. Joe Saints and basketball with the Wewahitchka State Bank. Benton was an auxiliary member of the Port St. Joe Fire Department and Port St. Joe Police Department. He was a licensed official with the Florida Athletic Association. Benton sang in the church choir for over 30 years at Glad Tidings Assembly of God and served as a deacon for 31 years. Benton loved his church family. He and his wife Dot worked for over ten years with the Golden Agers. He was a member of Sis. King's Sunday School class for 30 years. Benton is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Debbie Lindsey( Charles) and a son, Rev. Dr. Richard Hamm (Anita), his precious grandchildren, Casi Lindsey Knowles (Robert), Richie Hamm (Wendy), Brandon Hamm (Ashley), Lindsay Hamm; his great grandchildren, Kayla, Elijah, Jordan, Ashdon, Nixen, Delainey; his brother, Hinton (Margie), brother-in-law, Liddon Woodard (Lynda); his sisters-in-law, Lavinia Radel, Joyce Deason (Earnest) and several nieces, nephews and the world's best neighbors. Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 5 p.m. in the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church, Wewahitchka. The family will welcome family and friends at 4 p.m. in the church's fellowship hall prior to the service. Private family graveside services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to Richard L. Hamm International Ministries, 13925 Erwin Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28273 in memory of Benton Hamm.
