Bayne Culbreth Coonce – 1926 to 2021
Bayne Culbreth Coonce was born in Miami in 1926 to Opal and Rodolph Culbreth. They moved to Panama City where she was blessed with 4 sisters (Sara Cooper, Helen Schrenker, Joan Parker and Marynel Adams). One common thread throughout Bayne's life was her close connection with her parents and sisters. They stayed in close contact and were very supportive of each other.
Bayne graduated from Florida State University and began a carrier as a teacher and educator. She was the first women's PE teacher at Jinks Junior Highschool.
Bayne participated in a program of writing letters to service men overseas. Jim Coonce was stationed in Korea and received a letter from her. They corresponded back and forth and became interested in each other. When Jim returned to the US, he visited Bayne and they got married. Bayne and Jim loved each other very much and had a wonderful marriage of over 60 years.
Bayne and Jim had a daughter, Gail. Gail had serious throat problems that required numerous emergency trips out of state to a hospital that could handle the problem. They did everything they could, yet Gail passed at only 2 years. Two years later they had a son Barry.
Bayne was a loving mother who, along with Jim, did everything possible to ensure her children had the opportunity for a wonderful life.
She was a very considerate and supportive person, which lead to her having many long-term friendships. She enjoyed being involved in various clubs and organizations. She especially enjoyed Sunday school at the First Baptist church.
Bayne continued her teaching carrier in Titusville, FL as an elementary school teacher.
When Bayne and Jim retired, they moved back to Panama City. They loved to travel in their motor home and ultimately visited every state in the country.
Bayne lived a long, full, and successful life. She loved her family and did everything possible to make sure they were loved, supported, and provided for. She will be missed.
