Obituary

Bayne Collins

On Friday morning, October 9, 2020, Bayne Collins, loving husband and devoted father, passed away at the age of 82.

Bayne was born on September 6, 1938 in Panama City, FL to Bruce and Agatha "Tincy" Collins. He received his Bachelor's of Architecture from the University of Florida, Master's of Urban and Regional Planning from Florida State University, and practiced architecture in Bay County for over 50 years. On December 4, 1982, he married Anne Louise Register. They raised three daughters, Shannon, Lauren and Catherine, and one son, George.

Bayne was a hard worker, spending countless hours at his office he termed "the Salt Mine." The impact he had on Bay County through his work and service cannot be fully captured in an inch of newsprint. His projects are erected across the panhandle and the southeast United States, he served on various boards and councils throughout his career, and he actively pursued the development of Panama City from a  small town to the city it is today.

In his younger years, Bayne enjoyed playing basketball, carousing with his friend and mentor, Tom Daniels, traveling to Central America for hunting excursions, and sailing on the bay. Later in life, he enjoyed being next to the water, watching Florida Gators sports, and feeding the squirrels at the local walking park, much to the consternation of his fellow walkers. Above all else, the only thing he truly wanted was to be surrounded by his family and loved ones as often as possible.

Bayne was preceded in death by his mother, Agatha, and his father, Bruce. He is survived by his wife, Anne; four children, Shannon Collins (Brant), Lauren Applegate (Drew), George Collins, and Catherine Collins; grandchildren, Alexander and Rose Applegate; two brothers, Carl Collins and Clay Collins; two sisters, Mary Ann Taylor and Beth Specht; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be loved, missed and never forgotten.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 11 am in the Greenwood Cemetery with Father Tom Weller officiating. The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home from 9-10:30 am on Tuesday prior to the service.
