Barbara Ellen Worden of Lynn Haven, FL met our Savior face-to-face on Monday, April 13, 2020. She was at home with her immediate family by her side. Born in Newcastle, Pennsylvania, she grew up in Wyoming and attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. After graduation, she started her career in a Durham, North Carolina elementary school. She moved to Ft Walton Beach, Florida, and while teaching there, met her future husband, Chip. He was in the US Air Force, and as they moved to new locations, she always found a teaching position, including two years at an International School in Saudi Arabia. She finished her 35-year teaching career in Bay County at Waller Elementary in Youngstown, Florida, where she spent 18 years teaching 5th grade, Exceptional Student Education, and the Quest Program. After retirement, and together with her "soul sister" Susan, Barbara turned her life-long joy of sewing into a second career, creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind purses and handbags. She and her husband loved to travel, and she especially looked forward every year going solo to meet with her dear high school and college girlfriends, a group that referred to themselves as The Flowers. She was a member of Emerald Coast Fellowship where for many years she led a ladies' bible study and was actively involved in the church's Backpack ministry and Vacation Bible School. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Rupert. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Chip Worden; son, Bradley Worden and wife Kelley, grandchildren, Peyton and Tate, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; and sister, Anna Rupert of Cheyenne, Wyoming. As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Emerald Coast Fellowship's Backpack Ministry. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when "hugs" are once again normal.
