Barbara Symons Sanders, 91, of Panama City, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009. She was born August 28, 1918 in Lunenburg, Massachusetts to Thomas W. and Doris Gould Symons. She was a graduate of Choate School and attended Monroe Junior College and Chaneberlain School of Art in Boston, Massachusetts. She was a military wife and traveled all over the world. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Panama City where she was a greeter and active in the Bible Study and the Circle. She was also an avid Bridge player and gave to the community by being a Red Cross Hospital volunteer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col James O. Sanders. She is survived by her son, Lt. Col. (Ret) James M. Sanders; two grandchildren, Alex Sanders, Kimberly Sanders and two great grandchildren, Sydney Sanders and Garett Sanders. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date in Greenville, Maine, where she will be buried next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Covenant Hospice, 107 W 19th Street, Panama City, FL 32405 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 100 E 7th Street, Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Barbara Sanders.
