Barbara L. Schneider, 89, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2017, in Panama City, FL, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Barbara was born to Gustave Merz and Charlotte (Miller) Merz on October 28, 1927, in the City of New York.

Barbara was a loving, sharing, caring, smart, witty, strong, bright, highly intelligent woman, wife, and mother. Sparks of those traits remained with her until the very end.

Barbara graduated from Hunter College High School for Intellectually Gifted Young Ladies, Class of 1945.

While Barbara's fiancée served in the Korean War (1951-1953), she was employed as a Telephone Operator for the AT&T company.

Barbara was a stay-at-home Mom while raising the children, but returned to work at the University of Florida's Financial Aid Office for several years.

Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education degree from the University of Florida.

Barbara liked to write poetry, and enjoyed the music of Frank Sinatra and Judy London.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 62-yrs, Charlie, her two sisters, Marie (Merz) Hawkes Asaro and Grace (Merz) Mulcahy, and one brother, William Merz, and is survived by her son Charles and wife Milissa, Leesburg, FL, her daughter, Lynne, Panama City, FL, and her two grandchildren, Christina and husband Christopher, Indianapolis, IN, and Andrew, Leesburg, FL.
