Obituary

Barbara Lockwood Lee passed away on January 8, 2015 after a long and tough battle against Alzheimer's, in the loving arms of her son, Stephen.

She was born Feb. 3, 1931 to Carroll and Nelle Lockwood in Allentown, PA. She was reared and educated in Great Neck, New York and then attended Endicott College in MA. It was during this time she met James Gillis Lee. They married upon James's return from the Merchant Marines on August 16, 1952.

They had four children: Jim Jr., Doug, Steve and Laura. Barbara followed Jim with his paper mill career moves from Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, to Connecticut and finally to Georgia. Barbara was a strong Christian woman who was active in church and civic activities everywhere they lived. Barbara asked Jesus to save her in April of 2010 and she was born again, amen. She enjoyed hosting friends in her home. After 25 years of being a homemaker and raising four children, Barbara became a realtor in Rome, GA.

Jim and Barbara retired to Panama City Beach in 1986. They spent their time fishing and sailing with friends and family. Their favorite time was sailing on "Sandor" in the Bahamas and various places around Florida.

Barbara is pre-deceased by her loving husband Jim and her brother Carroll Lockwood. She is survived by her children and spouses, Jim Jr. and Kathy, Doug and Gena, Steve and Kathy and Laura and John Sumlin; and grandchildren Rachel Lee, Katie Brender, Christopher Lee, and Chat and Carter Sumlin and also her sister Nelinda Schmidt.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 15 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends and family afterward at Barbara's home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
