Barbara Jones, age 83, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at her home in Panama City, Fla. Her three children were at her side. Born Jan 5, 1932 in Cross City, Fla., Barbara devoted her life to education after earning her degree from Florida State University. Her forty-year-long career included positions in southern, central and northwest Florida, but her 22 years at Callaway Elementary School were the hallmark.
Upon retiring in 1994, Barbara became an avid traveler making multiple trips throughout the U.S. each year. She continued community service as one of Bay Medical Center's volunteer "Pink Ladies," and she tutored children through First United Methodist Church where she remained active throughout her life.
Survivors include her three children, Ted, Adrea, and Brian; two grandsons, Jeff and Ryan; and her great grandson Mason whom she called "the light of her life."
The family will receive friends at Wilson Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 7pm. Former students are especially welcome. A memorial service will be held 10am Saturday morning at First United Methodist Church of Panama City. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Barbara's name to First United Methodist Church.
