Arthur Wimpenny, Jr., 95 years of age, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, in Chester Sims Veterans Home. He was accompanied by loving friends and caring staff. Born on October 14, 1929, in Chicago, IL, Art lived a long, full life grounded in love for family, faith, service, and a deep appreciation for the people around him.
He is now joyfully reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, with whom he shared 70 years of unwavering love, adventure, and devotion. After meeting at the University of Michigan, they were rarely apart.
Art served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force before embarking on a long career as a forester with International Paper, working in Shreveport, LA, and Panama City, FL. Throughout his professional and personal life, Art was known for his calm presence, quiet strength, and the uncanny knack to see the good in others.
A man of deep faith, Art was a beloved member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Panama City. He Over the years he held many leadership roles with the church and cultivated deep friendships. He and Mary found great joy in sitting in front of the church with a cup of coffee, waving to passersby on Beach Drive, and simply enjoying a sunset.
He and Mary were avid travelers, exploring the country extensively in their trailer pulled by "Pop's Burban." Their adventures often included the memory-making trips with the grandchildren from Panama City to the cottage in Ontario, Canada. Art tracked these trips meticulously in his atlases and maps.
Art's legacy is one of compassion and genuine care for others. He touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and always his humble wisdom. His family, friends, and community will miss him deeply but carry his spirit forward with acts of kindness and love.
He is survived by his children David (Marlene) of Houston, TX, and Sara (Peter) of Eagan, MN; his brother-in-law Charles Foley of Williamsburg, VA; his nieces and nephew, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Art's service will be held on November 15th at 11am at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church
